Welcome to the web site of the Sacandaga Protection Committee. Formed in 2009 in response to proposed changes to the 80 year old Sacandaga Lake permit system, the SPC's mission is to protect the environmental, economic and legal interests of the entire lake community. Although the permit system rule changes have been put on hold, the SPC continues to support the interests of the lake community. The SPC is active in several onging issues with potential impact to the lake community.
The Sacandaga Protection Committee has engaged the services of a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. to represent the Sacandaga Lake Community interests regarding the revenue issues that have prevented the Hudson River Black River Regulating District from paying their property taxes.
The Regulating District has started issuing permits for 2011. As anticipated, based on the Board's action last may, the permits once again include the Exclusive Use language that had been missing for the last few years. We are obviously pleased with the Board's decision to re-instate the Exclusive Use policy; however, we recognize that there is more work to be done with respect to enforcement of the current policy and establishing a permanent long-term solution to resolve this issue.
