Fulton County Considers Great Sacandaga Lake as Future Water Supply - November 13, 2015

There have been several news articles in recent months regarding Fulton County looking to develop a countywide water supply. Most recently an article appeared in the Daily Gazette on October 29, 2015 titled "Fulton County looks for ways to expand water supply". The SPC has been and will continue to monitor this county initiative for any potential impact on the lake community.

On average approximately 2.5 billion gallons of water flows through the Great Sacandaga Lake every day.  The volume of water potentially withdrawn for drinking water would be less than one tenth of one percent of what flows through the Sacandaga on an average day.  At this point Fulton County is exploring the feasibility of this concept.  Should this idea continue moving forward, it would involve a significant permitting process involving local, state and federal agencies.
